SHALU - NARTANG TREK

Sakya Monastery

Attraction: This walk is a good opportunity to get a feel for trekking in Tibet. The two passes Show-La and Char-La are not particularly high or difficult. The trail heads are easily accessible from Xigatse.

Shalu Monastery, situated in the Shalu village of Gyantso district 30 km away from teh southeast of Xigatse cit. It was built in 1000 AD. The monastery shows a special architectural style combining Han with Tibetan style. A lot of treasures, handed down from ancient times, are left int ehmonastery. The mural paintings inside are numerous and delicate which are the rarity of art treasures in Tibet.

Sakya Monastery, boats of many classical books relics and precious mural paintings. Therefore, it is proclaimed "the Second Dunhuang". The Sakya Monastery is located by the two banks of the Drongchu River, on the ridge of the Bonbo mountain, within the boundary of the Sakya country, about 160 km to the west of Xigatse. It comprises the southern and northern monasteries. The northern monastery was built in 1079 and the southern in 1268. There are large collections of historical cultural objects stored in the monastery, such as the letter of appointment to the Sakya by the Central government of Yuan Dynasty, jade seals, crown, gown, sculptures and religious articles and porcelains from Sung and Yuan Dynasties as well as precious mural paintings etc. The Sakya Monastery has large collections of classic books, which are not only the volumes of Kagyur and Tengyur or scriptures written on pattra leaves, but also more than ten thousand classics on astronomy, geography, history, medicine and literature.

DAY 01

 Kathmandu - Lhasa. Overnight in hotel.

 Lhasa:  Visit Potala, Summer Palace, Sera. Overnight in hotel.

DAY 03

 Lhasa:  Visit Drepung, Jokhang, Barkhor. Overnight in hotel.

DAY 04

 Drive to Gyangtse. Overnight in hotel.

DAY 05

 Drive to Shalu. Overnight in hotel.

DAY 06

 Trek Shalu to Upper Longsang. Overnight in camp.

DAY 07

 Trek Upper Longsang to Ngor Monastery. Overnight in camp.

DAY 08

 Trek Ngor Monastery to Nartang. Overnight in camp.

DAY 09

 Drive Nartang to Sakya Monastery. Overnight in camp.

DAY 10

 Sakya to old Tingri. Overnight in guesthouse.

DAY 11

 Tingri to Zhangmu. Overnight in hotel.

DAY 12

 Drive Zhangmu to Kathmandu.

The Cost Include : 
Transportation by Toyota Land cruiser/Guided Tours with Monastery entrance/Twin Sharing accommodation with daily Breakfast at the standard Hotel and camping portion with full meal and all the equipments, Tibetan staffs, Yak for equipments during trekking portion, all the permits and land fees, but not includes riding yaks if they need
