Samye Monastery

Samye Monastery, situated in the northern bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, within the boundary of the Dranang Country, the Samye Monastery was first built in 779 AD and presided over for being constructed by Padmasambava (Guru Rimpochhe) and Trisong Detsen, It is the first monastery allowing tonsured monks to become real Buddhists. The central chapel is three-storeyed building with Tibetan style rooms on the ground floor, Han-style rooms on the middle floor and Indian-style rooms on the top floor. The whole architectural construction is grand in scale and unique in style. Many images and mural paintings are well kept in the monastery. The bronze bell, the lion carved of white-jade and the monument of thriving Buddhism in alliance are the priceless treasures.
 

 Itinerary of Ganden Samye Trek 4 Days
 

Day 01

Drive from Lhasa to Gandan and trek from Gandan to Hepu or to Yama Do (5 hrs), the trek begins from the parking lot at the base of the monastery, camp.

Day 02

From Yama Do to Tsotup Chu valley (4 -5 hrs)via Shukla (5250m), camp.

Day 03

Tsotup Chu Valley to herders`camps (5hrs) via Chitu La (5100m).

Day 04

From Herders`camps to Samye monastery, to visit Yama Lung caves.

Day 05

Visit Samye monastery and transfer to Nakartse, to visit Yumbu Lakang and Trandruk monastery, overnight at Nakartse guest house.
