Walking may be the best fitness activity for many seniors to govern the relatively low physical risks and the enormous long-term health benefits. These 'Walking Tips for Seniors' are designed to reduce the risk of often preventable foot and ankle injuries and ailments that could lead to inactivity, and prohibit many seniors from realizing the tremendous benefits of walking.

American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) -- has issued guidelines for seniors in response to the recent release of two major long-term studies confirming the beneficial effects of regular walking on a person's overall health and well-being.

One study revealed that regular exercise walking lowered the risk of death from cancer and cardiovascular disease and -- in general -- prolonged life. Increasing the walking distance from just one to two miles produced even greater results. The second study found that taking brisk half-hour walks just six times a month appeared to cut the risk of death by 44 percent, and even occasional exercisers were 30 percent less likely to die than sedentary folks.

Benefits of Walking

In addition to the long-term benefit of prolonging life, the Foundation points out that seniors can experience many short-term benefits from walking. Walking:

-- Controls weight, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. A brisk walk can burn up to 100 calories per mile or 300 calories per hour. Walking is the perfect complement to a sensible diet to lose weight and keep it off;
-- Improves cardiovascular fitness and circulation. Walking gets the heart beating faster to transport oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the muscles; and increases the size and improves the efficiency of tiny vessels that supply blood for cellular respiration;
-- Facilitates medical rehabilitation and recovery from many ailments, including heart attack;
-- Generates a sense of well-being, and can relieve depression, anxiety and stress by naturally producing endorphins, the body's natural tranquilizer;


Trekking Preparation Tip

Selection of the type of trek & company & location : There are various types of travel company with specializing in particular travel service choose one of your interest. Then choose the type of trek & area of trek. If you confuse to decide consult with the tour company. But never trek alone in elder age.

Weight: The weight of your rucksack should not be more than 5 Kg (1. Try not to carry very much weight. Not only will it Hurt you and wear you out, it is dangerous. Try to find clothes that are light and will dry fast also! Try to stay away from cottons and try to wear Poly-prop or something like it. It is super light and dries out very quick. The best thing to do is go buy the lightest gear that you can get & only the compulsory stuffs. When you are hiking always put the heavier weight up toward the top so that it balances out more! Be sure to carry enough to stay warm. I always carry a cotton top that doubles as a my pillow!

Documents Please prepare & update with all the necessary personal documents. Passport, visa traveling ticket, permits, insurance policy, travel cheques ,cashes all should be kept in proper places so that you can find when it comes to be necessary.

Medical : remember to pack your medicine of daily routine in its proper place in the hand bag. Keep the prescription with you to buy it in new destination if your trip is longer.

  • Itinerary: Sometimes the itinerary of the trek is necessary to make a change according to weather, landslide, some construction on the way or the walking capacity of the guests etc. You should not depend only the guidebooks & the persons who trekked this route about quite before. Such things are can be changed within the short time period too.

  • Trekking time Per day: We would like to suggest you to walk 4~5 hours /per day below 3000m & 3~4 hour per day over 3000m

  • Trekking altitude per day: It is suggested not to ascend more than 300m in one stay. But in descend you can lengthen it according to the necessary without making any fatigue.

  • Accommodation : We are very much aware on the well accommodation to our guests. The trekking lodges on the way are facilitated with all minimum requirements. In the aging time the quantity of blood & its circulation becomes lower in the body so the clothes in the bed need extra more for the protection from the temperature.

  • Food : All hygienic nutrition are provide to recover the energy lost by our guest in trekking. In lodge to lodge trek there are menu of various fresh food according to your interest. Considering the slower metabolism of senior guests we provide a well cooked a balanced and, quick digestive food during the trek

  • Staff: We have better arrangement of all types of staff according to the need of the trip. They have an experience of guiding in all part of Nepal Himalayas since long. Besides this we are conscious in selecting guides to feed the keen interest & sharp vision of senior guests with the nature, culture & other subjects.

  • Health care: To avoid circulatory problems. periodically, stretch & shrink your legs, arms, shoulders and neck before you rest. Take enough rest without any tension. Try to get a nice sleep in the night. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, and limit your intake of caffeine and alcoholic beverages. While trekking in Himalayas the flower of medicinal herbs or other plants scatter smell which sometimes cannot be matching to senior trekkers. It causes a lightly headache. Prepare its precaution if it happened so.

  • Rescue: We have a well provision of all the mode of rescue according to the necessity of situation. There will be an escort or guide trained in primary treatment & rescue on the spot in your trip.. Not only that we can do helicopter rescue even in all part of the trekking ways of Himalayas if the situation requires. Keeping in the mind about the physical condition of Senior guests we are more conscious in this issue.

There is a discount of 15 % on each & every trek above 5 to 10 pax

Solo Discount:

For the period of trekking we provide a pair of trekking stick, a down jacket ,a sleeping bag , a water bottle & a day pack carry with you to put your necessary & important stuffs like camera, music device, book etc. Generally these are not provided in tea house treks & shot treks.

A nominal charge to check your physical condition for the trek of 4000m & above.
