 Itinerary of Rodungla Trek In Detail
 

Day 01

Arrive Paro from Kathmandu by flight

Day 02

Paro - Thimphu
This morning follow the winding road beside the Pa Chu (chu means water or river) downstream to it's confluence with the Wangchu then up valley to Thimpu the capital then lunch. Afternoon visit the Memorial Chorten (stupa), here the faithful circumabulate the shrine. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 03

Thimphu - Sightseeing
A full day of sightseeing and shopping in Thimphu. Wander in town, visit shops and the handicrafts emporium. You may return to the hotel for lunch with your guide and transport. Afternoon drive north up the valley to Dechenchholing (residence of the Queen Mother) to get a wonderful down valley view of Thimphu and Tashichhodzong. Visit the silversmiths at the north end of the valley. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 04

Thimphu - Tongsa
The journey to Central Bhutan begins today. The drive to Tongsa takes approximately 7 to 8 hrs. Packed lunch will be provided. Lunch stop at Chendebji Chorten. Overnight at  Tourist lodge.

Day 05

Tongsa - Bumthang
Drive to Jakar takes approx. 2 1/2 hrs. Tales of the great teacher Guru PadmaSambhava dominates this holy valley. From the view point you can see Jakar Dzong "Castle of the White Bird". Lunch at Tourist lodge. Afternoon hike up to Lame Gompa, a place built by the 1st king for his two nun sisters, outside of Lame Gompa one can see old style of Bhutanese paper making. Overnight at tourist lodge.

Day 06

Bumthang - Nganglhakhang
The Trek route follows the Chamkharchu. Lunch stop at Thangbi Lhakhang - then enter the "Swan Land" (Ngang Yul) with its center "Swan temple" (Nganglhangkhang). This part of the valley was at first inhabited only by swans who gave their name (Ngang) to the place. O/N in Camp. Alt. 9500 ft. Distance - 20 KMS about 5 hrs.

Day 07

Nganglhakhang - Ugyenchholing
Climb gradually to Phephela pass alt. 3353m/11000ft. The trial until the pass leads through one of the most beautiful forested areas of this region. Allowing for many stops to enjoy natures beauty. O/N in camp. alt. 9300ft. Distance - 23 KMS about 7/8 hrs.

Day 08

Ugyenchholing - Phokpey
Climb through bamboo, hemlock and finally up to the alpine forest. Overnight in camp. Alt. 11,500 ft. Distance - 17 KMS about 5/6 hours.

Day 09

Phokpey - Ungar
Continue upto Phokpeyla pass alt. 12,300 ft. Which takes about 1/2 an hour, then continue downhill through the gorge. Distance - 20 KMS about 6/7 hours.

Day 10

Ungar - Taskila
This trial winds up and down passing Drula village, and Khaine Lhakhang, one of the oldest in existence built in the mid 7 century A.D. by the 1st King of Tibet Tsong Tsen Gampo to subdue a demon. Alt. 6000 ft. Distance 21 KMS about 6/7 hours.

Day 11

Taskila - Lhuntshi
Drive up to Lhuntshi Guest house for lunch. After lunch at leisure. Overnight in Guest House or camp. Alt. 6000 ft.

   
NOTE : The actual Rodungla trek ends at Lhuntsi, the following route is part of the Dongla Trek.
   

Day 12

Lhuntshi - Menji
Drive down to Kuri Zam and trek starts gradually up through the paddy fields and villages. Overnight in camp. Distance - 16 KMS about 4/5 hours. Alt. 6000 ft.

Day 13

Menji - Pemi
Continue up through thick forests, overlooking mountain views. Camp under the shelter of the forest alt. cir 8000 ft. Distance -20 KMS about 6/7 hrs.

Day 14

Pemi - Taupang
Continue upto Dongla from where you can see all the high mountains. Descending through the thick evergreen forest till campsite. Alt. 8000 ft. Distance - 21 KMS about 6/7 hours.

Day 15

Taupang - Yangtsi
An early start for the last and longest day on the trek. Descend gradually till Yangtsi through Chirpine and hardwood forest. Overnight in camp. Distance - 24 KMS about 8/9 hrs.

Day 16

Tashi Yangtse to Trashigang
Drive to Trashigang and visit around it.

Day 17

Trashigang to Bumthang
Drive to Bumthang.

Day 18

Bumthang to Thimphu
Drive to Thimphu.

Day 19

Thimphu to Paro
Drive to Paro International Airport and then fly to Kathmandu/Bangkok.
