Bhey Laga Trek

Itinerary of Bhe - Laga Trek In Detail

Day 01

RIFAKA - BHEY NIULEY
Six and a half hrs steep climb from Rifaka to Domtshela. After crossing the pass at Domtshela you come across the Chamtey river which flows into the Punakha Phochu river. Bhey Niuley is a village consisting of around 28 households with a central village monastery. Mule trekking is a possibility. Bhey Niuley provides a lovely camp site.

Day 02

BHEY NIULEY - BHEY RIJU
A four and a half hours steep climb is the hardest part of the trek up to the point at Jelela covered in a blanket of Blue Pine trees through out the way. After the ascent to Jelela, the track descends all the way down. The scenery at the campsite at Bhey Riju is a beautiful treat. Camp at Bhey Riju.

Day 03

BHEY RIJU - NAMTAKHA
The hardest climb is a three and a half hours ascent to Tshophula. The hard climb to Tshophula is compensated by a refreshing arrival at the three crystal lakes of Chorein, Kubithang and Kub. The distance between the lakes are just about five minutes walk. Rest of the track is rocky but relatively easier for trekking. The next route to the camp site at Namtakha is rocky. Camp site at Namtakha.

Day 04

NAMTAKHA - PHAYRA
En route, you come across the Tshonam lake, a lake that displays two colours, one side is bluish and the other side dark. Legend in the locality speak of the belief that the blue part of the lake represents the colour of god and the dark part of the demon. The lake is the source of the river Dangchhu. After two hours of fairly easy trekking, you come across Shakala and to the lake of Shakatsho. The route from Shakatsho to Phayra la (pass) provides some beautiful natural delights.

Day 05

PHAYRA - SINTHA
This is the longest part of the trek. After the camp site at Phayra, you come across a lake called Phayra tsho (lake). From Phayra Tsho to Naakubila trek of one and a half hours id fairly easy.. The tough part begins from Naakubila to Zatsam Tsho, which is the boundry line between Taksep and Bheylagap. The trek takes one and a half hours of gruelling trekking, crossing the Rocky Hill, called Zaalam by the locals. The trek route leads to parts where you have to jump from boulder to boulder and at certain routes, crawling on all fours. From here you reach Zaatshal tsho from where you have an easy walk till Jambala for two hours finally reaching the largest lake on the Bhey laga trek, the Leki Laatsho. Trek on a relatively easy route till Sinthala. Then the trail leads all the way down hill till the camp site at Sintha.

Day 06

SINTHA - TAMPEY TSHO
