RIFAKA - BHEY NIULEY
Six and a half hrs steep climb from Rifaka to
Domtshela. After crossing the pass at Domtshela you
come across the Chamtey river which flows into the
Punakha Phochu river. Bhey Niuley is a village
consisting of around 28 households with a central
village monastery. Mule trekking is a possibility.
Bhey Niuley provides a lovely camp site. |

02 |
BHEY NIULEY - BHEY RIJU
A four and a half hours steep climb is the hardest
part of the trek up to the point at Jelela covered
in a blanket of Blue Pine trees through out the way.
After the ascent to Jelela, the track descends all
the way down. The scenery at the campsite at Bhey
Riju is a beautiful treat. Camp at Bhey Riju. |

03 |
BHEY RIJU - NAMTAKHA
The hardest climb is a three and a half hours ascent
to Tshophula. The hard climb to Tshophula is
compensated by a refreshing arrival at the three
crystal lakes of Chorein, Kubithang and Kub. The
distance between the lakes are just about five
minutes walk. Rest of the track is rocky but
relatively easier for trekking. The next route to
the camp site at Namtakha is rocky. Camp site at

NAMTAKHA - PHAYRA
En route, you come across the Tshonam lake, a lake
that displays two colours, one side is bluish and
the other side dark. Legend in the locality speak of
the belief that the blue part of the lake represents
the colour of god and the dark part of the demon.
The lake is the source of the river Dangchhu. After
two hours of fairly easy trekking, you come across
Shakala and to the lake of Shakatsho. The route from
Shakatsho to Phayra la (pass) provides some
beautiful natural delights. |

PHAYRA - SINTHA
This is the longest part of the trek. After the camp
site at Phayra, you come across a lake called Phayra
tsho (lake). From Phayra Tsho to Naakubila trek of
one and a half hours id fairly easy.. The tough part
begins from Naakubila to Zatsam Tsho, which is the
boundry line between Taksep and Bheylagap. The trek
takes one and a half hours of gruelling trekking,
crossing the Rocky Hill, called Zaalam by the
locals. The trek route leads to parts where you have
to jump from boulder to boulder and at certain
routes, crawling on all fours. From here you reach
Zaatshal tsho from where you have an easy walk till
Jambala for two hours finally reaching the largest
lake on the Bhey laga trek, the Leki Laatsho. Trek
on a relatively easy route till Sinthala. Then the
trail leads all the way down hill till the camp site
at Sintha. |

06 |
SINTHA - TAMPEY TSHO
You now reach Tshosethang which joins with the main
track to Lunana, besides also being the confluence
of the Sintha Chhu and the Mangde Chhu. Overnight
camp at Tampey Tsho. |

07 |
TAMPEY TSHO - MORATHANG
You climb for three hrs to Tempeyla before
descending down to Morathang. From Morathang, the
trail leads all the way down along the Nikka Chhu
river. Overnight camp at Morathang. ( 14 kms. 5 hrs.

MORATHANG - NIKKA CHHU
The route from Morathang to Nikka Chhu is an easy
one, passing through fields and farm houses of Sephu
village. ( Distance about 23 kms, about 6 to 7 hrs.
Alt aprox. 8692 ft.) Meet the vehicle at Nikka Chhu,
and drivr on to Punakha. Overnight Hotel Zangtopelri. |
